Product Overview

Chat Noir is a hand pulled, fine art poster lithograph, by S2 Art. Theophile-Alexandre Steinlen had created the iconic poster art in 1886 to promote impresario Rudolphe Salis', Le Chat Noir Cabaret, French for The Black Cat. The first of its kind, Le Chat Noir is considered the first modern cabaret or nightclub where patrons could sit at tables and enjoy alcoholic drinks while watching live entertainers on stage.

The lithograph is pulled through an 1800s, French Marinoni Voirin printing press on handmade Rives BFK paper.

This is not print or reproduction. It is a remastered, recreated, original work of art.

This piece was produced at S2 Editions Atelier, New York City, in 1997, under the guidance of the Ré Society, Ltd, and S2 Art company.

This lithograph bears the trademark of the Ré Society, plus the blind stamped emblem of the S2 Editions Atelier. The signature of the chromist, Jean Pierre Remond is also printed unobtrusively on this lithograph in order to distinguish it from the original Golden Age poster.

The lithograph is sequentially numbered in pencil in the lower left border, by a curator at S2 Editions.

Comes with a certificate of authenticity by S2 Art Group, Ltd. Item is packaged and shipped in a museum quality tube.

Dimensions: 19" x 28"
