Product Overview

Gilda is a hand pulled, fine art poster lithograph by S2 Art from their Art of the Movies collection. This is an exact recreation of the iconic 1946 theatrical release one-sheet. It's pulled on Rives BFK French hand-made 100% cotton paper through a rare, antique, German made printing press.

This is not print or reproduction. It is a remastered, recreated, original work of art.

The original artist of this beautiful poster is Robert Coburn. Gilda featured Rita Hayworth in the title role and Glen Ford. The tagline reads: The Never Was a Woman Like Gilda.

This one-sheet was produced at S2 Editions Atelier, New York City, in 2000, under the guidance of the Ré Society Ltd, and S2 Art company. It was created in partnership with the American Film Institute's, 100 American Classic Movie Posters.

This lithograph bears the trademark of the Ré Society, plus the blind stamped emblem of the S2 Editions Atelier. The signature of the chromist, David Copson, is also printed unobtrusively on this lithograph in order to distinguish it from the original Golden Age poster.

The lithograph is sequentially numbered in pencil in the lower right border, by a curator at S2 Editions.

Comes with a certificate of authenticity by Re Society Ltd. Item is packaged and shipped in a museum quality tube.

    Gilda

Posted by Steve Lake on Aug 19th 2021

Everyone's favorite seems to be Gilda and I get it. It's gorgeous. It's just that there are those I like even more. I LOVE MOVIES, old and new alike, and these Art of the Movies posters are both nostalgic, and remarkable works of art wholly within themselves, far surpassing and even lapping the originals in my humble opinion. IN FACT, THESE MAY WELL BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL POSTERS YOU’VE EVER SEEN! Having spent years in the printing industry myself, I never experienced anything like hand-pulled lithography. There is a vast difference in quality, one that I never fully appreciated, between using standard 4-color process as opposed to the typical 12-16 colors used to create these posters. THE COLORS FRANKLY LEAP OFF THE PAGE! There’s also a tactile difference quite apparent in the quality of paper. I already owned a large collection double-sided movie posters dating from the late 80s and longed for some old classics that would look nice in my backlit poster marquees. Took a chance and splurged on one of these, Richard III. I WAS BLOWN AWAY! These posters look FANTASTIC in backlit marquees, every bit holding their own to double-sided posters. After this initial purchase I now have 20 more in my possession and 8 more on top of that on the way! Here’s hoping they’ll add more to their collection!
