Product Overview
The Big Bull is a 14" x 20" framed original painting on handmade mulberry paper by Gary Johnson. The motivation for the painting is an autumn morning encounter with an enormous bull moose. The rut was in progress, and Gary was not welcome in his territory as he emerged from a cold fog. He executed the painting on handmade mulberry paper using pastel pencil, watercolor, and gouache paints. For texture and impact, the artist applied a gold-speckled medium around the torn edges of the paper. This entire process is Gary's technique, developed about 25 years ago. He framed the piece to create the maximum impact by floating the painting in a beautiful dark wood burl frame. This process gives the painting more dimensionality to intensify the presence of the big bull."
